Poltronic and Climate Care
Since global business easily includes a lot of traveling, and Poltronic is unfortunately no exception, we are happy to be able to collaborate with a professional organisation for reducing the impact of traveling on climate change. Climate Care Ltd has since 1998 been analysing the impact of energy uses with emphasis on traveling and on ways to fund either reductions of other green house gas emissions or to fund carbon dioxide sinks. On www.climatecare.org you can read about their projects on improved stoves, renewable energy and reforestation.
Poltronic is happy to report to Climate Care all energy usage and they calculate the equivalent CO2 emissions and charges us for the relevant expense used in CO2 emission trade. That payment is then used by them for offsetting the CO2 emissions from our activity.
Of course every effort is still made to minimise traveling, especially flights, but for the travel still needed this compensation method make our activity climate neutral. This is also a first step that we hope others will follow in building a momentum for global energy taxes on airplane fuel. It is in our mind a scandal that the fuel used in the worst environmentally destroying fashion (in the atmosphere) is globally excluded from taxation!
The calculation of Poltronic's CO2 emissions November 2004 to October 2005 reveals a dramatic 9 tonnes for air travel and 1.3 tonnes for land transportation. The latter is due to the fact there need to be a very good reason for me to abandon public transportation for use of a private car. Fortunately Finland and Helsinki region is well equipped when it comes to public transportation.
All these emissions can however be offset by letting Climate Care invest 95 EURO in emission compensating projects.
We recommend every enterprise to carry its responsibility for its deeds and emissions!
When it comes to office heating Poltronic is almost climate neutral as a vast majority of our energy is renewable electricity produced in Lumituuli by Ekosähkö
Environmental questions are not easy, continuous research and discussions are needed.
